Man who thought he was hooking up with girl waiting to be sentenced
In fact he was talking to an undercover cop on social media, not a 15-year-old girl
A Sudbury man who thought he was arranging a meeting with an underage female for sexual purposes but was actually conversing on social media with a police officer posing as an underage teen could get a new sentencing date on Thursday.
Aaron Holly, 55, had pleaded guilty on Jan. 26 to communicating with a person under the age of 16 for the purpose of committing a sexual offence (luring).
He was to have been sentenced on April 11 but that did not happen, however.
Instead, Holly could have a new sentencing date set in Ontario assignment court on Thursday.
Defence lawyer Richard Pharand has requested a pre-sentence report. A pre-sentence report usually takes six to eight weeks to complete.
On Jan. 26, the court heard that on May 4, 2022, a police officer portraying a fictitious underage female on social media started a conversation with Holly.
Holly believed the person he was talking to was a 15-year-old female.
Holly indicated his name was Jim and he was 49. He began discussing sexual matters with the so-called underage female.
Holly and the girl agreed to meet at the corner of Ester and Long Lake roads about 4 p.m. that afternoon. They would then go to his home where oral sex would be performed.
Holly also indicated the type of clothing he would be wearing.
Police officers then arrested a man at that location - Holly - who matched the clothing description. He was charged with luring.
