On Saturday at 4 p.m. join the Georgian Bay Symphony for its Family Christmas Concert. The afternoon features a carol sing-along with music performed by Owen Sound Music for Youth; dancing with the Owen Sound Dance Academy and a dramatic reading from Owen Sound Little Theatre. This is a pay what you can community event at East Ridge Community School, 1550 8th St. E. Owen Sound.
For the 33rd year the Authors’ Open House will take place, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at The Ginger Press in downtown Owen Sound. The annual Authors’ Open House has become an important literary tradition in the Grey Bruce community, by providing the opportunity for local writers and readers to connect. A toy drive fundraiser for Saugeen features a Crystal Shawanda Christmas Concert. Show takes place on Saturday, at 7 p.m. at the James Mason Centre, Saugeen First Nation. Tickets $20 for adults, $10 for youth, $5 for children. Tickets at the door.
The annual Owen Sound City Band Christmastime Family Concert, directed by Julia Richards, is at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound. There will be opportunities for singalongs, with featured vocal soloists. The show features the Alexandra Community School Choir, directed by Heather Thompson. there will be refreshments and all are welcome. Admission is by donation, with all proceeds to the Ministerial Association sign fund.
The annual Community Christmas Choir concert takes place Sunday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. and again Monday, Dec .10 at 7:30 p.m. at Ann es ley United Church in Markdale. The choir of almost 80 members is directed by Chris Griffin and accompanied by David Fries on the organ and piano. The concert, Celebrate Christmas, will feature songs old and new and will get the audience in the mood for the Christmas season. The evening ends with a reception in the church hall where delicious home baked goodies will be enjoyed. Admittance is by freewill offering. Snow date will be December 12 at 7:30 p.m..
There’s and early bird Christmas exhibit at the Legacy Gallery at the Owen Sound Artists’ Co-op. The exhibit features new and different art and craft from the co-op’s 45 members, as well as curated work from 48 guest artists of 2018.
Guest artists at the co-op for for November include Karen Murray’s papier mache animals, Janice Ditner’s sculptural pottery, oils on canvas by Lydia Knox and intentional camera movement photography by Dianne Semple-Patille. The co-op is open seven days a week. www.artistscoop.ca.
Meaford United Church presents an outdoor enactment of “A Living Nativity” Friday, Dec. 14 on the grounds of the Meaford United Church, 7 Boucher St. E. There will be three performances, 7, 7:30 and 8 p.m.

The Hepworth Shallow Lake Legion, in association with The Church Ladies, presents Brittany Bro die in concert at the Legion-Music Hall of Fame Auditorium, Saturday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for youth, $10 children and are available in Hepworth at the Legion and Cindy’s Variety, in Owen Sound at Bayshore Country Feeds and in Port Elgin at the Rabbit Dash. First Baptist Church in Owen Sound presents Welcome to Our World a musical for Christmas featuring the Shoreline Chorus under the direction of Ann-Marie MacDairmid, and Hillary Jack on violin on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 3 p.m. With a script created by Claire Cloninger and Robert Sterling, this musical gives us a look at the way Jesus was received at His birth, how He is received today, and what our response should be to Him in our everyday lives. The Community Christmas Cantata Choir presents “Behold A Savior!” Tuesday, Dec. 18 and Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church, 18 Ferndale Rd., Lion’s Head. Under the direction of David Warder and accompanied by Vicki Corcoran, the program includes a cantata filled with joyful music, narrations and stories, as well as other pieces by the choir and carol singing for everyone. Soloists and guests, The Ladies of Note, are also performing. Refreshments prepared by the choir members are served in the church hall afterwards. Admission is $10 plus a food donation for the food bank. The cash proceeds, after choir expenses, will be divided between the music program at Bruce Peninsula District School and Badge of Life Canada, a charitable organization supporting first responders and corrections personnel dealing with psychological injuries. There will be a Christmas Dance Party at Hepworth when The Ridge River Ramblers return to the Hepworth Shallow Lake Legion – Music Hall of Fame Auditorium on Saturday, Dec. 22, from 2 to 5 p.m. Several guest entertainers will perform with the Ramblers, plus, there will be dance prizes, Christmas treats and more.
