Arts for Youth concert planned for Markdale Jan. 19
Once again it is time for the AFY (Arts For Youth) Winter Concert. Performing in this the 12th annual concert will be MAFY (Markdale Arts for Youth), TAAFY (Totally Awesome Arts for Youth) and OCAFY (Osprey Community Arts for Youth). They will be joined by The Osprey Rock Choir and the Beavercrest Choir. These grades 5 to 8 students from the Holland Chatsworth, Osprey-Maxwell, and Markdale areas along with several MAFY alumni have been working hard at their weekly practices to prepare. More than 80 musicians will entertain the audience with solos, duets, quartets and concert band performances. The concert takes place Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. at Annesley United Church in Markdale. Tribute band Chicken Fried presents an authentic version of the Zac Brown Band at Meaford Hall Saturday at 8 p.m. Featuring the vocals of Elton Lammie the band performs all the hits of ZBB that have appeared on the radio and some of their songs reserved only for live shows. Owen Sound Little Theatre presents Shorthanded by Michael Grant Jan. 31-Feb.2 and Feb. 6-9 at 7:30 p.m. Directed by Shirley Holmes, this production is part of the Season of Comedy. It’s Game 7 of the championship finals and the local Old Timers’ hockey team is looking for redemption. Cursed by a legendary Game 7 loss suffered years ago as Junior B players, the Old Timers’ home town hasn’t won a title since. But just how much can the players take for the team? Jamie Smith (vocals) and the Don Buchanan Trio perform at Heartwood Concert Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. Don (piano, sax); Paul Danard (bass) and Steve Wood (drums) will create the vibe for this up-close performance of jazz standards, show tunes and Scottish love ballads masterfully sung by Jamie Smith. Celebrate Valentine’s Eve with two sets of love. And there will be chocolate! A portion of the proceeds will go to Chapman House. The Georgian Bay Symphony presents A Concert for the Young at Heart on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. This concert is for music lovers of all ages. Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf is a timeless fairy tale. Benjamin Brittens Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra is the perfect introduction to the orchestra and refresher course for aficionados.
