Walsh wins at Grande Meadows
Grande Meadows — This past weekend, Grande Meadows at Frenchemen’s Cove on the Burin Peninsula hosted its 15th Annual Grande Meadows Men’s Invitational.
A total of 95 golfers competed in the two-day event, with three divisions based on handicap. There were golfers from a number of clubs throughout the province, including Harmon, Bally Haly, Clovelly and Glendenning , as wells as a competitor from Calgary.
Ray Walsh of Grande Meadows, defeated Don Boland of Bally Haly on the third playoff hole Sunday afternoon to capture the tournament.
Both golfers finished the two-day 36hole event tied at 160 (80-80).
Both Walsh and Boland both made par on one and two and then came back to play the first hole again. This time, Walsh made a par 4 on the hole while Boland had to settle for a bogey.
Dave Wall of Bally Haly finished one stroke back with a 161 (78-83). Wall remained in contention until Hole 17, where he recorded a triple-bogey eight.
Jim Farewell of Grande Meadows Won the B Division with a two-day total of 168 (88-80). Frank Hodder of Grande Meadows captured the C Division in a tie-breaker with Ray Warren of Grande Meadows with a total of 186 (101-85) Warren had 93s in both rounds.
Rhodie Smith of St. John’s won the A Division low net (68-78-146), while Peter Coady of Grande Meadows won the B Division low net (68-71-139). Paul Nicholson of Harmon Seaside Links captured the C Division low net (72-68-140).
