Police still seeking help in trail attack investigation
The
Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is still investigating the alleged attempted abduction of a teenage girl on the Corner Brook Stream trail last month.
Responding officers and a police dog pursued, but were unable to locate the man the 16-year-old said grabbed her and tried to drag her into the woods along the popular trail in broad daylight on the afternoon of July 24.
The weather that afternoon was warm and sunny and the area in and around the trail was busy with pedestrian traffic, which may have contributed to the attack being foiled after the girl screamed for help.
There still has not been an arrest in the case, despite unconfirmed reports a suspect has been identified.
“The only thing I can say is the investigation is continuing and we are still getting leads from the public that we are following up on,” Const. Scott Mosher, the RNC’s acting media relations officer, said Friday.
Mosher said investigations, such as this one, often have to go through a process that takes time to complete.
“We are taking this with the utmost seriousness,” he said. “As information becomes available, we are acting on it.”
The description of the man provided by police based on the initial investigation indicated he was around 30 years old, had short, dark hair, stood about six feet tall and weighed between 180 and 200 pounds.
Anyone who has any information about the incident and has yet to talk to the police is urged to call the RNC at 637-4100 or provide that information anonymously via Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.nlcrimestopers.com.
