Pasquale earns first recall
With Montoya injured, Jets recall Icecaps’ No. 1 netminder
Mark Dekanich, who has made only one appearance in the last six St. John’s IceCaps games, should be getting plenty of work in the next little while with Eddie Pasquale on recall to the Winnipeg Jets.
Pasquale was recalled to Winnipeg Wednesday to replace Al Montoya, who was injured in the Jets’ 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night.
Montoya was replaced by Andrej Pavelac to start the third period, but remained on the bench rather than seek treatment in the trainer’s room. The Jets did not skate Wednesday and will not reveal the extent of Montoya’s injury until later today.
For the 22-year-old Pasquale, it marks his first recall to the Jets in this, his third year in the organization.
The Toronto native is 14-19-2 this season with a 2.63 goals against average and .912 save percentage.
Last year, Pasquale was named to the American Hockey League’s all-rookie team, and was the IceCaps’ top rookie.
In his place, the IceCaps have recalled Chris Carrozzi from the ECHL’s Ontario Reign. It’s Carrozzi’s second recall to St. John’s. He was summoned to the IceCaps in January to replace an injured Dekanich.
Dekanich made his first start since Jan. 5 last Sunday against the Connecticut Whale at Mile One Centre, but was pulled in favour of Pasquale after allowing two goals on five shots.
St. John’s is in Manchester, N.H. Friday for the first of a six-game homestand. The IceCaps and Monarchs meet again Saturday before St. John’s travels to Portland to meet the Pirates Sunday.
