The town that says … you’re welcome
This is a year to celebrate in the Town of Carbonear since 2013 marks the 65th anniversary of incorporation for this vibrant, dynamic and flourishing Conception Bay North community.
There are plenty of reasons to take pride in the town’s rich history, its critical place in the social and economic fabric of the region, and its undeniably bright prospects for the future.
And as the town’s hospitable and heartening new motto – the town that says … you’re welcome – indicates, newcomers and visitors can be assured of a cordial greet- ing and an upbeat atmosphere that blends history and heritage with modern services and unparalleled community pride and spirit.
As one of the oldest communities in Canada, it’s safe to say that tradition runs deep in Carbonear. This is evident in the architecture, the museums and the historic harbourfront.
You’ll be amazed by the town’s deep connection to the fishery, its role in shaping modern-day Newfoundland and Labrador, and by the colourful, captivating and enterprising people who stepped to the forefront through the generations.
And if culture and clean living is what you’re looking for, be aware that Carbonear offers a lifestyle second to none in Atlantic Canada, making it an ideal place to live or visit.
With a population of just under 4,800 and a wide range of services and amenities, including a regional hospital, schools, sporting and recreation facilities, government services and a large business base, Carbonear is often described as the business service centre for Trinity Bay South and Conception Bay North.
Its incorporation, meanwhile, occurred at a time of great change and advancement, with citizens of this province voting by the slimmest of margins in 1948 to enter into Confederation with Canada.
Plenty has happened in the decades since, and Carbonear has been on the leading edge throughout.
