Sudden death still under investigation

- BY CORY HURLEY

The RNC had nothing new to report this week on its investigation into the sudden death of David (Dick) O’Flaherty in Corner Brook.

O’Flaherty, 51, was found dead in his Main Street bedsitting room in the early evening of June 3.

Const. Scott Mosher said Friday the investigation remains active with nothing to update.

Lots of information to go over

He said a lot of information was obtained at the onset of the investigation that is being analyzed, reviewed and followed up on.

“It’s a situation that requires a lot of resources — time and effort — which we have committed to that,” Mosher said.

He also said the medical examiner’s office is still conducting its investigation, leaving police with some unanswered questions.

A preliminary report from an autopsy indicated no cause of death could be determined at that point.

Family and friends have said O’Flaherty had been beaten up shortly before he was found dead.

There was also a disturbance in Curling less than two weeks after, in which a gang of men apparently assaulted a 32-year-old man.

Police would not confirm if there was any connection, but there had been concern people may take matters into their own hands if there was no arrest in connection to O’Flaherty’s death.
