Vaughn, Wilson pursue ‘The Internship’

- BY JAY BOBBIN

It’s “only” taken eight years for moviemakers to reunite Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.

That’s baffling, since “Wedding Crashers” remains one of the most successful movie comedies of the past decade. It’s a given that a “Wedding Crashers 2” was considered; mercifully, that didn’t come to pass, since it’s hard if not impossible to catch that kind of lightning in a bottle twice.

In its own way, “The Internship” stands as proof of that. It’s the project that does bring Wilson and Vaughn back together, and while it generates some smiles – especially since the two stars’ amusing rapport is intact – it’s nowhere near the humorous home run “Wedding Crashers” was.

The actors play watch salesmen who suddenly find themselves out of work, and as their former occupation might suggest, they’re ill-equipped for what modern times require of many of those just hitting the job market. Ultimately, they decide to pursue internships at Google, the searchengine home that’s about as of-the-moment as job opportunities get.

Never mind that the Vaughn and Wilson characters are about twice the age of most of the other applicants. They get brought on board, and the rest of the movie is about them adjusting to the younger, hipper culture they’ve suddenly joined.
