Adam Butcher’s portrayal of the title character as a real teen keeps this 2004 comedy-drama from sinking in sentimentality. Ralph, a student at a Catholic school in the 1950s, needs a miracle — his dad is dead, his mom is dying, and he’s facing an orphanage — and decides that winning the Boston Marathon will make it happen.
