LIFE SERIAL

- MICHAEL KORB

And soon there’ll be just one. But not too soon. Canada’s favorite youth-oriented singing competition, “The Next Star,” returns for its sixth season Monday, July 15, on YTV.

After scouring the nation and auditioning more than 5,000 aspiring stars 15 years old and younger, the show will bring the finalists and their talents to Toronto to dazzle returning music industry insiders Keshia Chante, Mark Spicoluk and Tara Oram.

In short order the finalists will be narrowed down to 12, and so on and so forth, and, well, you know how it works. Each year it seems there is more and more talent being homegrown in Canada.

But what’s especially cool about this season, aside from the fact that popular YTV personality Carlos Bustamante joins the program as host, is that the producers have added more ways to experience the show.

In addition to online voting and viewing, they’ve added two new Web series: “The Next Star Aftershow” and “Backstage Pass,” hosted by Next Star Nation’s Mark “Suki” Suknanan. Viewers can get their fix far beyond the confines of the television show.
