Royal Canadian Navy team ‘Runs the Rock’ for Children’s Wish

-

Twelve representatives of HMCS St. John’s recently ran more than 900 kilometres from Port Aux Basques to St. John’s to raise money for the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada. This is the 18th consecutive year that members of the Royal Canadian Navy have raised funds for Children’s Wish. This year’s team (pictured at right) is a very diverse group, ranging in age from 25 to 36 and having anywhere from two to 17 years of service with the navy.

During a ceremony at St. John’s City Hall June 29, the crew of Run The Rock 2013 presented a cheque to Children’s Wish in the amount of $75, 717.20. This donation will go a long way to help the foundation to continue granting wishes to children between the ages of three and 17 who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

Wishes run the full spectrum of children’s interests and passions — from fans of Mickey Mouse to therapeutic outdoor swimming pools, and even a trip to Beaumont Hamel this past July 1 for a young history buff. Efforts such as Run the Rock have allowed the foundation to grant more than 600 wishes to children in our province since 1986.
