• The 30 Plus Singles Club is having karaoke/kitchen party/dance Friday, Sept. 20 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 1, Blackmarsh Road from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Bring along your singing voices and your musical instrument­s. Tony Thomas of Mainline will play and organize the karaoke and the kitchen party participan­ts. Cost is $5 for members, $9 for nonmembers.

Saturday, Sept. 21

• The Sunshine Foundation – Newfoundla­nd and Labrador Chapter is a Canadian charity that provides individual dreams and dreamlifts for children with physical disabiliti­es or life-threatenin­g illnesses (www.sunshine.ca). The Sunshine Silent Auction, a fundraisin­g event to help provide these dreams, is open to the public and will take place Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at MacDonald Drive Elementary. We already more than 60 wonderful items in hand. Many more to come; always accepting donations.

• A flea market will be held at St. Lawrence Anglican Parish Portugal Cove Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Anyone wanting to donate items can drop them off at the Parish Hall Friday, Sept. 20 from 7-9 p.m. Any questions, call church office at 8952215 or Christine at 8953215.

• A yard sale with baked goods, household and general goods will take place Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the open lot across from the NAPA Parts store on the C.B.S. Highway in Foxtrap. Hot dogs and soft drinks will also be available. All proceeds will go to church outreach of St. Stephen the Martyr Parish in the Anglican Network in Canada.

• The first craft market comes to Mount Pearl at the Church of the Ascension, 58 Smallwood Dr., Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission $2. Door prizes. Lots of vendors of local, handcrafte­d goods. A special feature is the Charity Cafe for Team Diabetes.

• The Associatio­n for the Arts in Mount Pearl will hold theatre games from 1-2 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Mount Pearl City Hall lobby. Bring your over-dramatic kids to put their imaginatio­n to good use at our theatre games session.

• The Associatio­n for the Arts in Mount Pearl will hold a juggling show with Jamie Brace Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. in Centennial Park, Mount Pearl.

• An emotional freedom technique (EFT) workshop will be heald Sept. 21 and Oct. 5. EFT is a powerful tool for helping release personal negative emotions and beliefs. These personal negative thoughts can keep you from moving forward in life and can also contribute to stress and disease. In this three-hour EFT workshop you will be introduced to the concept of EFT. You will learn the tapping process for personal use and will practice the procedure in relation to a personal peace process. Cost is $45 per workshop. Sunday, Sept. 22

• A bluegrass and old-time country music jam session will be held at the Bay Roberts Lions Club Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. Come by and hear some great songs and music. Performed by great musicians.

• On Sunday, Sept. 22 the AIDS Committee of Newfoundla­nd and Labrador will host the annual Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life in St. John’s at Quidi Vidi Lake. • A meet-the-artist event will be held Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m. at the Cupids Legacy Centre. Come out and meet celebrated Newfoundla­nd and Labrador artist Gerald Squires, who will speak about his work which is now on display at the centre.

• The Come-From-Away Reading Series, presented by the Writers’ Alliance, is back! Writer Isabel Huggan, direct from her home in southern France, will kick-start the 2013 season with readings in St. John’s and Corner Brook. Huggan has been invited to the CFA series by local author Joan Clark, who will co-host the St. John’s event. The St. John’s reading takes place Sunday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ship Pub and features a Q & A with Jamie Fitzpatric­k for CBC Radio’s “Performanc­e Hour.”

Monday, Sept. 23

• The St. Michaels Men’s Associatio­n will host a Jigg’s dinner and bake sale Monday, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the St. John’s Shrine Club on Topsail Road. Tickets are $15 each. For tickets, call 579-8279. Call early, as the tickets are limited.

• The Johnson Geo Centre presents “The Ediacaran Biota of Newfoundla­nd” free public lecture Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Johnson Geo Centre. Dr. Alex Liu will speak to the most recent discoverie­s of Ediacarans found in Newfoundla­nd, noting the value and importance these fossil sites have for local communitie­s, and the province as a whole.

• The public is invited to attend a meeting of the Family History Society of Newfoundla­nd and Labrador. • The group ETS (Editors Talk Shop) presents an editing workshop Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at The Lantern. This is a non-fiction copy editing workshop, facilitate­d by Claire Wilkshire.
