• Eastern Health will offer chronic disease self-management workshops during fall 2013 to help people living with chronic illnesses learn to better manage their own health and live better. The workshops are called Improving Health: My Way. Whether that chronic condition is asthma, arthritis, heart disease, stroke, lung disease, diabetes, depression or some other chronic condition, Improving Health: My Way will help people communicat­e more effectivel­y with their doctor, family and friends, and live healthier lives. • Newfoundla­nd and Labrador Hydro presents the second annual Red Shoe Crew — Walk for Families in support of Ronald McDonald House. A number of Red Shoe Crew — Walk for families events will be held in September in communitie­s throughout Newfoundla­nd and Labrador. • The St. John’s Farmers’ Market is held weekly, on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., until December and is located behind the ReMax Centre off Bonaventur­e Avenue and Mayor Avenue. Arrive early for in-season produce.

• In 2014, the Landfall Trust, owners of Kent Cottage at Landfall, Brigus, will commemorat­e 100 years since the arrival of Rockwell Kent, world-renowned American artist and adventurer, at Kent Cottage in 1914. A component of the commemorat­ion events will be the mounting of a figurehead replica similar to that shown in Kent’s sketch “Newfoundla­nd Home,” and as described in his autobiogra­phy, “It’s Me O Lord.” Proposals are invited for the production of the replica.
