Caps shade Wild for second win in as many nights

The St. John’s Hickman Automotive Group Caps edged the Mount Pearl Marks Dakota Wild 4-3 in Penney Kia St. John’s Junior Hockey League play at the Glacier Sunday.

Ryan Hawco, Zac Cooper, Lee Gulliver and Justin Walsh each scored once for the Caps.

Kyle Aucoin, Damien Ryan and Chad Thompson had the goals for the Wild

Walsh and Aucoin were chosen the Jungle Jim’s players of the game.

In a game at Southern Shore Arena Sunday, the CBR Assante Wealth Management Renegades defeated Placentia I.J. Smith & Son Home Building Centre Flyers 8-5.

Scorers were unavailabl­e.

SATURDAY

Garrett Murphy scored three goals and set up one to lead St. John’s to a 5-3 win over the BK Services Celtics Saturday at Twin Rinks.

Jungle Jim’s player of the game Ryan Hawco scored once and set up two goals. Ryan Walsh had the other goal for the winners, who led 1-0 after the first period. The teams were tied 22 after two frames.

Chris Backwood was chosen the Celtics player of the game.

St. John’s outshot Celtics 30-26.

Roebothan McKay & Marshall Capitals 4, Mount Pearl 2

Michael Cole scored twice to pace the Capitals at Goulds Arena.

Ben Cleary and Alex Powell each scored once and set up two for the Capital, who outshot the Wild 32-22.

Chad Thompson scored twice for Mount Pearl.

Cleary and Thompson were named players of the game.

CBR Assante Wealth Management Renegades 4, Southern Shore C& W Offfshore Breakers 3

In a game at Robert French Memorial Stadium, Josh Taylor, Brandon O’Neill, Stephen Ledrew and Jon Ralph scored for Renegades while Mitch Martin, Dylan Joy land Justin David replied for Southern Shore.

Ledrew was chosen the home team’s player of the game, while Martin took the honours for the visitors.

The Renegades outshot the Breakers 34-29.
