Vokey gets OT winner for Privateers

Brett Vokey scored in the first minute of overtime to give St. John’s Privateers a 4-3 win over Tri-Pen Osprey in provincial major midget hockey in Bay Roberts Sunday.

The Privateers’ Jesse Sutton, with his second goal of the game, tied the contest with 19 seconds left in the third period. Patrick Pilon had the other goal for St. John’s.

Nathaniel Duffett scored twice for Tri-Pen and Ryan Dawson also tallied for the Osprey.

AJ Rooney made 22 saves to pick up the win, while Jeremy Freake stopped 39 shots in the loss.

St. John’s Maple Leafs 8, Western Kings 5

Andrew Paul scored three goals and set up one to pace the Maple Leafs at Rogers Bussey Arena Sunday.

Adam Caines scored twice for the winners. Riley Baggs, Matthew Smith and Dylan Guy each scored once. Coady Barron contribute­d six assists.

Jalen Gillard and Jordan Richard each scored twice for the Kings. Brady Hefford scored once.
