Conley, Hoyles, Bugden and Mills were net winners at provincial­s

Frenchmen’s Cove — As part of the revitaliza­tion of the provincial championsh­ips, Golf Newfoundla­nd Labrador (GNL) introduced net awards at the 2014 Royal LePage Provincial Adult Championsh­ips held over the weekend at the Grande Meadows course on the Burin Peninsula.

The net awards were based on the first two days of competitio­n and presented at the players’ dinner on Saturday.

In the men’s A division, Chuck Conley of Bally Haly took first place with a net score of 144. followed by Bob Skanes of Gander, who carded a two-day net total of 147 and was awarded second place based on retrogress­ion.

Tom Jones, also of Gander, took third place.

In the men’s B division, Grande Meadows golfers took all three top positions with Bob Hoyles placing first with a two-day total score of 137 followed by Ray Walsh (143) and Matthew Hackett (142).

In the men’s C division, it was again a Grande Meadows sweep, with John Bugden recording 134 total, followed by Chad Antle and Ron Bungay, who both had 134 scores. Antle took second place through retrogress­ion.

In the women’s division, Janet Mills of Bally Haly took first place with a two-day total of 136 and finished six strokes ahead of Debbie Kenway of Grande Meadows.

Kim Stead of Glendennin­g Golf placed third in the division with a144 total.
