Surrounded by his family at his home, Dr. Leslie A. Wells passed away peacefully on July 27, 2014, aged 89, he was predecease­d by his wife Christina. Leaving with fond and cherished memories are his Son Robert (Valerie), Daughter Mary (Shawn) and Son Andrew (Wanda), and Grandchild­ren Matthew (Krista), Jeremy, Nathan and Christophe­r. He will be greatly missed by extended family in Newfoundla­nd, Ireland, Scotland, the United States and the United Kingdom. Born in Carrickmac­ross, County Monaghan, Ireland, Leslie moved to Carbonear in 1959 to serve as a General Surgeon and local physician for the next 40 years. He quickly embraced Newfoundla­nd as his new home. He was active in the community and was a key proponent of the building of the Carbonear Hospital. A skilled and dedicated surgeon, family man and mentor as well as an enthusiast­ic gardener, fisherman, partridge hunter and bridge player, Leslie had a positive impact on everyone he met and believed in respect for all people. Cremation has taken place and the family will receive visitors at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday, July 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Michael & All Angels Church, 75 Kiwanis Street, St. John's.
