Apple may very well be building a car

- AUTOGO.CA

If we are to believe an article published recently in the Wall Street Journal, tech giant Apple has plans to build an electric car that would eventually become a competitor to another California-based company, Tesla.

The idea of an Apple car is strange, no question about it, but that hasn’t stopped practically every publication on the planet from talking about a potential iCar since the Wall Street Journal broke its story on Friday. Everyone has an opinion on the subject, and there are plenty of “why Apple is building a car” and “why Apple should not build a car” articles to go around. Of course, Apple has not joined in on the debate.

What we have learned since Friday is that the Head of Apple himself, Tim Cook, approved the project over a year ago. Apple’s Vice President Steve Zadesky is apparently managing the project after having spent some time as a Ford engineer who also worked on the iPhone.

More than one hundred Apple employees are already working on the project, and up to 1,000 may eventually join the team. Named Titan, the project would be an electric car that would eventually rival the Tesla Model E according to a few sources. Other sources have mentioned that the Titan would actually be an electric minivan.

In reality, nobody really knows what is going on here. What we know for certain, however, is that Apple certainly has deep enough pockets to finance the design, manufacturing, and sustainability of its own car, and that the company is looking for a new product to keep everyone’s attention after the iPhone and iPad. As for what comes next, only Apple knows.
