Central defeats Tri Pen in three straight; Privateers and Maple Leafs split

The Central IcePak took three straight from the visiting Tri Pen Osprey in Newfoundla­nd and Labrador Major Midget Hockey League play this weekend at Lewisporte Stadium.

Meanwhile, the St. John’s Maple Leafs and St. John’s Privateers split their two games at Goulds Arena.

Sunday in Central, Stephen Crant netted his second of the game in overtime to lead the IcePak to a 6-5 come-from-be- hind win over the Osprey. Ryan Ricketts also netted a pair for the winners, who were down 5-3 late in the third, while singles came from Jake Abbott and Jared Lush.

Matt Akerman, Kyle Tetford, Cass Warren, Ryan Petten, and Mark Barrett counted for the Tri Pen.

In Saturday’s contest, after Broaders’ second goal of the game tied things at three apiece, Ricketts scored the winner with 20 seconds to play in a 4-3 win for Central. Mackenzie Lewis also dented twine.

For the Osprey it was Warren with a pair and Colin Parsons.

In Friday’s series opener, Kyle Champion, Broaders, Crant and Alexander Saunders had one each to lead the IcePak to a 4-1 victory. Cass Warren tallied for the losers.

Tri Pen are off next weekend while Central play host to the Western Kings on Friday night and head to St. John’s for two games against the Privateers on Saturday and Sunday.

Maple Leafs at Privateers

Sunday at Goulds Arena, Brad Connors scored twice and Joel Abbott stopped 29 shots to lead the Privateers past the Maple Leafs 4-2.

Matt O’Leary and Max French supplied singles for the winners. Tyler Power had both Maple Leaf markers and Josh Lang- mead had 25 saves in net.

On Saturday night in Goulds, Cameron Sullivan scored the winning goal and MacKenzie Janes stoped 39 of 41 shots faced as the Maple Leafs won 3-2. Cody Langmead had two for the winners.

Adam Nolan and Jack Keough lit the lamp for the Privateers.

Next weekend, the Maple Leafs play host to the Western Kings at the Glacier on Saturday and Sunday.
