‘Hank is an inspiration’
Canine with dwarfism is the newest member of the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program
Overcoming his own obstacles, a yellow Labrador retriever is poised to make a difference in the lives of others in this community.
Hank, who suffers from a rare canine condition, dwarfism, is the newest member of the St. John Ambulance therapy dog program.
His owner, Allison Best, says her dog lives a happy life despite his condition and she was drawn to the therapy dog program because of her dog’s demeanor.
“Hank can show people that it’s OK to be different,’’ Best said.
Despite his perceived limitations, he lives a full and happy life and isn’t afraid to attempt anything,’’ she added. Best said Hank puts a smile on her face every day and she feels that joy needs to be shared with the less fortunate in the community.

She plans to have Hank certified as a therapy dog, once he works in other settings to become accustomed to his newfound calling by working with seniors and.
“Hank has a lovely temperament; he’s an ideal candidate for friendly visitations with this program. And with his condition, many of the seniors that meet Hank can relate to him on a whole other level, Roberta Hewitt, manager of marketing and community relations for St. John Ambulance said.
“Hank is an inspiration and we’re happy to have him and Allison as representatives of our program,’’ she added.
