A man has pleaded guilty to charges laid in connection with a vicious attack on another man during a party at a Southlands home in March of last year.

When Robert Mills appeared Friday in provincial court in St. John’s, he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, assault with a weapon (brass knuckles), possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts of breaching court orders.

The charges were laid following an incident on March 4, 2016.

A 21-yearold man was said to have come home to his Mahogany Street residence that night to find a family member having a party. Friends say he was trying to eject partygoers when he was assaulted.

The man spent time in hospital in serious condition, but has since been released and is recovering.

Mills had been released from jail on bail shortly after he was arrested. However, he was arrested again in August 2016 for breaching court orders. He was again released, but when he was arrested for breaching court orders again three months later, the judge opted to keep him in jail.

Mills is represented by Corner Brook lawyer Sandy Mackinnon. Elizabeth Ivany is the Crown prosecutor.

They agreed to schedule Mills’ sentencing hearing for April 28.

Four teens were also arrested in connection with the assault and have been granted bail.

Their names are banned from publication due to their ages. All four have pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault charges.
