Police looking at possibility glasses, chain could be connected to Cortney Lake

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers were on the scene near O’donel High School in Mount Pearl Monday, where items were found that might be linked to Cortney Lake’s disappearance.

According to RNC Sgt. Doug Day, police received a tip via Facebook that a pair of glasses and a chain were located in the vicinity.

“We’re not sure if they belong to (Lake), but given the nature of the case, we felt it best to err on the side of caution,” Day told The Telegram.

Day said officers put up police tape to barricade the area while they investigated. RNC identification services took photos of the items in the grass before they were taken to be analyzed.

After about an hour, officers left the scene at about 4 p.m.

Day said the items might belong to someone else, as a large number of people were in the area this past weekend to participate

in the Play On street hockey tournament.

Lake, 24, was last seen in CCTV footage on June 7, when

she was spotted on Wellington Crescent walking away from her Mount Pearl home toward the area of Lindbergh Crescent/

Ruth Avenue at 7:52 p.m.

Police have learned through interviews with witnesses that she had spent the afternoon with friends and family and was later dropped off at her home.

Police are appealing to all residents and businesses in that area to review any CCTV camera footage they may have shortly after 7:52 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7.

Investigators with the RNC’S major crime unit believe the circumstances around Lake’s disappearance are suspicious. Officers say they have serious concerns for her and are urging the public to come forward with any information they may have. The RNC will also release this information to the public on social media using the hashtag #Helpfindcortney.

Anyone who has information pertaining to her whereabouts is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can be provided anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
