Golf Canada’s new CEO visits province
Golf Newfoundland Labrador, in partnership with Clovelly and Bally Haly Country Club, recently hosted Golf Canada CEO Laurence Applebaum.
The new head of the national sport federation and governing body for golf in Canada, Applebaum joins Golf Canada after serving in an extensive array of sports management roles around the globe.
This province was the first stop on a nationwide tour that will see Applebaum visit each province and territory in the coming months. The purpose of these meetings is to introduce himself to key stakeholders and to begin an open and frank dialogue to identify issues of provincial and national concern as we work together to grow this game.
While in the city for a one-day visit, Applebaum met with the local governor of Golf Canada, met with a number of members of the board of directors of Golf NL, met senior management at the two courses and spent some time with the executive director of Golf NL to discuss areas of opportunity for the two organizations to develop golf in the region.
For the past five years, the Toronto native was executive vice-president of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he oversaw a variety of strategic and operational initiatives.
During his tenure, Applebaum was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the women’s professional tennis circuit, including tournament operations, on-site competition, player relations and development, sports science and medicine, broadcast operations and new business development.
Golf NL would like to extend a warm welcome to Mr. Applebaum, and looks forward to fostering a strong working relationship with the new CEO of Golf Canada.
