A fantastic finish
“Let Me Win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” This is the Special Olympics motto and it was truly exemplified last weekend at the Pearlgate Complex in Mount Pearl by Crystal Young of the Tricom Gentle Giants during the athletics competition of the 2017 Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games. Despite being the final athlete to complete her 3,000-metre race, Young’s determined effort in the event, which involved eight circuits of the track, drew a loud and deserving round of applause from those in attendance as she crossed the finish line. Young was one of more than 300 Special Olympics athletes who competed in seven sports at venues throughout the metro area.
