Atlantic team beats Quebec for medal finish
The Atlantic Rock claimed the bronze medal at the Canadian under-19 men’s rugby championship Saturday in Truro, N.S., with a 30-22 decision over the Quebec Voyageurs.
The gold medal was won by British Columbia, which beat Ontario 29-17.
The Rock got out to an early lead against Quebec, after a successful penalty kick by Campbell Clarke and a try with a point-after kick on the mark putting them up 10-0.
Quebec got a penalty kick of its own to make it 10-3, but the Rock scored another try with a miss on the point after to lead 15-3. On the next series of play, however, Quebec scored a try, leaving it 15-8 at halftime.
Early in the second half, Quebec drove down for another try with a successful point-after kick tying the game 15-15.
The Rock scored again on a gritty drive to take a 22-15 lead, and added a penalty kick by Clarke making it 25-15.
Quebec broke one open to score a try and make it 25-22, but another try by the Rock made the final 30-22.
Nick Davidson of Saint John, N.B., Jack Mccarthy of St. John’s and Dylon Montgomerie of P.E.I. each had a try for the Rock, while Clarke from St. John’s was successful on two conversion and two penalty kicks.
