Bursey named All-america Scholar
The Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Wednesday that Utah Valley University golfer and Gander native Blair Bursey, with teammate Ariel Elftman-hanson, has been named Cleveland Golf/srixon All-america Division I Scholars. To be eligible, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 per cent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university. Bursey, majoring in communications and a senior in the upcoming 2017-18 year, has a 3.36 GPA. This past year, Bursey played in 12 tournaments, recording five Top-15 finishes on the year and registering a 72.65 scoring average.
He tied for sixth at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate with a threeround score of even-par 213 (69-75-69). He also finished tied for 10th at the OGIO Utah Invitational with a two-round score of 3-over-par 145 (75-70).
“This is a fantastic achievement” stated Greg Hillier, executive director of Golf NL. “Blair has dedicated himself to continuously improving his game while maintaining a high academic standard.” Bursey is competing at the 2017 Canadian Amateur Championships in Toronto and sits in a T50 with a 1-over-par 71 and 7 strokes off the pace after the first day of competition.
