It appears the drivers of two cars involved in two separate collisions, one of them an apparent hit-and-run, early Sunday morning may not have been that eager to speak with police.

Both drivers disappeared from the collision scenes and were nowhere to be found when St. John’s Regional firefighters and police showed up.

The first collision involving two cars on Kelsey Drive happened just before 2:30 a.m.

A pedestrian who witnessed the collision told The Telegram a car speeding north on a turn slid into the path of a southbound car, crashed into it, spun around over a sidewalk into nearby bushes.

The witness and her friend ran to check on the driver of the southbound car, but by the time they reached the car in the bushes, the driver of that vehicle had disappeared.

The female driver of the car that was struck was uninjured but both vehicles were extensively damaged.

The second collision was reported at about 3 a.m. and involved car going off the road on Peacekeepers Way westbound just west of the Trans-canada interchange. Once again, when firefighters arrived on scene, the car was empty and no driver was located.

The car appeared to have gone off the road and come to rest in trees about 50 yards further down the highway. That car was also extensively damaged. Both incidents are under investigation by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
