Theatre St. John’s presents ‘British Invasion: America Strikes Back’
After the success of last year’s production of British rock music revue “British Invasion,” Theatre St. John’s is coming back across the pond for a similar show.
Where last year’s show featured music from the likes of The Beatles, Adele and David Bowie, “British Invasion: America Strikes Back” will include hits from acts like Elvis, Tina Turner, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Aerosmith, Tina Turner, the Eagles and others.
Actor/comedian Greg Malone will host the show — as Queen Elizabeth.
“He’s worth the price of admission,” says Keith Pike, artistic director of Theatre St. John’s.
“Newfoundland truly does have the brightest stars in the country, and we’re giving the original rock stars a run for their money.”
Starring in “British Invasion: America Strikes Back” are Kelly-ann Evans, Jody Richardson, Dana Parsons, Darrin Martin, Mike Cox and Evan Smith, who also serves as musical director.
All proceeds from the show will go to support the theatre company’s upcoming musical theatre writers’ retreat, set to happen this fall in Bonavista and St. John’s over the course of 10 days. The participating emerging writers will workshop the show they create with Theatre St. John’s members.
“Any opportunity to create theatre and music events for the community, we’re grateful for that,” Pike, currently teaching at Sheridan College in Ontario, told The Telegram over the summer, as Theatre St. John’s was preparing to open what turned out to be a successful run of “Mamma Mia.”
“British Invasion: America Strikes Back” will run at the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 (including tax and surcharge) and are available at the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre box office and online at www.artsandculturecentre.com.
