Petrina Bromley to perform Friday in St. John’s
‘Grit & Grace: A Pink Tie Gala’ showcases skills of women
Petrina Bromley of the Broadway musical “Come From Away” is in Newfoundland for the next few days while she prepares for a performance hosted by Persistence Theatre, “Grit & Grace: A Pink Tie Gala.”
“This event is all about promoting the empowerment of women in all aspects, which is so important,” said Bromley.
Bromley says that with the recent #Metoo campaign, where women shared their stories of sexual harassment, it is important to have events like this to showcase the success of women.
The event will be hosted by Cathy Jones of “This Hour Has 22 Minutes,” and will feature a five-course meal prepared by five of Newfoundland’s finest female chefs.
“We hear a lot about men who are Newfoundland’s premier chefs, and I don’t mean to take anything away from their achievements,” said Bromley. “This is a wonderful opportunity to bring some recognition to the women who, like in all aspects of industry, are also working very hard and doing incredible things, but receiving less recognition.”
There will also be auction items up for grabs, and the services, crafts and art are all created by women.
“I’ll be singing a full set of tunes Friday night,” Bromley said. “It will range from some Broadway, to pop and maybe even a Newfoundland tune or two.”
