‘Guys and Dolls’ coming to St. John’s
‘Republic of Doyle’ actress Krystin Pellerin set to star
It’s considered by many musical theatre lovers to be the perfect comedy, and Atlantic Light Theatre might agree.
The St. John’s-based theatre company is bringing the Tony Award-winning classic musical “Guys and Dolls” to the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre Feb. 1-4, 2018.
“Republic of Doyle” actress Krystin Pellerin will star in the production alongside Dana Parsons, Justin Nurse and Peter Halley.
“This talented foursome will share the stage with a large cast and a pit orchestra led by music director Doug Vaughan, with art director Jacinta Mackey Graham and choreographer Miranda Macdonald Butler,” Atlantic Light Theatre stated in a news release.
A story of gambling and romance set in New York City and Havana, Cuba, “Guys and Dolls” premiered on Broadway in 1950, winning that year’s Tony for Best Musical. Since then it has seen several revivals, as well as a 1955 film starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine.
It has long been a popular choice of production for community theatre troupes.
Atlantic Light Theatre, led by founders Vaughan and Mackey-graham, has produced a number of large-scale shows in St. John’s over the past few years, such as “Les Misérables” and a sold-out run of “A Call to Arms” this past September. The latter was an original musical by Petrina Bromley based on the true story of Lieut. Stephen Norris of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment.
