The frustrated drivers go round and round…

-

Frustrated drivers of St. John’s, now is the time to voice your frustrations to the city.

Previous councils had the answer to speeding traffic: don’t let them use the street. That’s what they did to Winter Avenue, basically turning it into a one-way street for all but residents of the area. Miraculously, the right-turnonly sign, when exiting the supermarket, disappeared, leaving only the arrow on the road, but try making a left onto the extremely busy Kings Bridge Road.

The loss of east/west on Empire Avenue has left long lines of traffic on Bannerman Road and Military Road, with drivers trying to go west, and has created an expensive white elephant piece of Empire Avenue, by St. Pat’s Ball Field. The road to nowhere, south traffic on Rennie’s Mill Road turns right onto Empire, but must turn right on Carpasian, going back north. Ironically, the road with no traffic has No Parking signs on the north side. Traffic going east on Empire Avenue must stop at Carpasian Road and turn right. Try doing that in winter before plows and salters get around.

If you get up to Circular Road, you must make that dangerous left, as you cannot see traffic coming down Monkstown Road. This could be avoided, if council would put a roundabout at the Empire and Carpasian intersection, making east-west traffic along Empire Avenue possible, and keeping less traffic on the very narrow section of Circular. They have been tried on much narrower streets than this wide intersection with council property adjacent.

Please, east-end drivers, voice your frustrations to the city for access to Winter Avenue and Empire Avenue.
