‘He has seen the good in everyone’
Well-known retired educator Fred Andrews dead at 72
Well-known retired educator Fred Andrews has passed away.
With a masters degree in education, Andrews was longtime teacher and former president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association (1999-2001). A resident of Logy Bay, he was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
“The rabbits can breathe a sigh of relief,” Andrews’ family posted on Facebook Saturday, saying he had passed away just before 11 that morning.
Andrews, who was married to his wife Patsy for just shy of 47 years, had two daughters, Jane and Lisa, and a son, Chris. Chris Andrews is the frontman for Shanneyganock, and Fred Andrews often referred to himself as “Daddy Shanney.” Both father and son are featured in Shanneyganock’s music video for their version of “Music and Friends,” released earlier this year.
“Fred will really be missed by myself and the rest of the band, especially during rehearsals at Chris’s house, when he’d be sure to pop by with one of his beagles just for a quick chat and see how we were making it,” Shanneyganock’s Mark Hiscock told The Telegram.
“It was usually during preproduction of a new album, I think, just to see if we were staying on track!”
Andrews also had a granddaughter, Lila. He often expressed his pride for his family — and Shanneyganock — in his Facebook postings.
He passed away in hospital after a very brief illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced today. Andrews was 72.
“Have a laugh, story and a drink in honour of the big man,” his family wrote in their social media announcement. “He has seen the good in everyone.”
