King of Khaos member gets extended stay in jail

- Telegram@thetelegram.com

A man said to be part of a prison group calling itself the Kings of Khaos will spend at least another year behind bars.

Provincial Court Judge Colin Flynn sentenced Douglas Leroy Yetman, 39, to two years and two months in jail Tuesday morning on charges of robbery, break and entry, forcible confinement, assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and uttering threats.

With credit given for the time Yetman has spent in jail, he has just over a year left to serve.

The charges stem from an incident in St. John’s last December. Prosecutors referred to it as a home invasion, and suggested a seven-year prison sentence.

The defence asked for 15 months in jail, telling Flynn that Yetman was working on overcoming a cocaine addiction and trying to get his life together for his grown children.

Yetman still has another matter before the courts: he and five other members of the self-professed Kings of Khaos have been charged with the beating of fellow inmate Al Potter on Sept. 20.

Yetman, Calvin Kenny, Robert Fitzgerald, Gary Hennessey, Robert White, and Ibunkun Akindele Adetifa each face a charge of assault causing bodily harm in connection with the beating, which was so severe that Potter is reportedly still recovering.

Potter is a member of the Vikings motorcycle club and is awaiting trial for murder. The case is scheduled to be called again in provincial court next week.
