After the death of Larry Wellman in a shooting on Oct. 3, 2015, now-premier Dwight Ball went to the police, supplying information that helped in the arrest and conviction of Brandon Phillips — the man who was found to have taken Wellman’s life.

Ball revealed apparent multiple thefts and damage to his personal property around that time, in a tense period for his family. And it was all happening as he was working to win a coming provincial election.

There are remarkable details, but politicians in Newfoundland and Labrador aren’t jumping into any related, public commentary.

Neither the sitting Progressive Conservatives nor New Democrats are speaking about it.

And Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador president John Allan said there are no issues as far as the Liberal

party is concerned.

“There’s two things. There’s a professional level at the board level. The premier has full support. We work very closely with

the eighth floor to make sure we are both in sync,” he told The Telegram Wednesday.

“From a personal level, I can say it’s never been a discussion at any board meetings and I think the premier did a wonderful job, as a great dad, answering any questions in the media.”

Allan expressed his personal respect and support for Ball, thanking him in the lead-in to the holiday season.
