Sea-hawks’ games re-scheduled

-

Stormy weather through the Atlantic region Thursday night, which caused travel delays, has impacted the Atlantic University Sport conference.

As a result, basketball games at the Field House in St. John’s featuring the Memorial Sea-hawks and Cape Breton Capers have been rescheduled.

The women’s and men’s games originally scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. today have been rescheduled to Monday morning at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively. Tickets for Saturday night’s games will be honored at the Monday games.

Games set for Sunday (noon for the women and 2 p.m. for the men) will go ahead as scheduled.

The Sea-hawks are back from their lengthy exam/christmas break. Both teams last played in November.

The Lady Birds are tied for second place with the University of New Brunswick, each with 5-3 records. Cape Breton is nipping at their heals at 4-3. Acadia leads the standings with a perfect 7-0 record. The Acadia-saint Mary’s game slated for Thursday night in Wolfville, N.S. was postponed.

The men’s team is 2-6, although the Sea-hawks are currently in the playoff hunt, sitting in sixth place. It’s a big weekend for the Memorial men’s squad, as Cape Breton is 2-5 and the two games are each worth four points. UNB leads the conference with a 7-1 record, and Memorial went into the break on a high note with a 105-92 win over the Varsity Reds in Fredericton, N.B.
