Loyola Sullivan retiring from Ocean Choice International
Carey Bonnell will assume post of vice-president of sustainability and engagement this fall
Loyola Sullivan will retire from Ocean Choice International (OCI) this fall, ending his seven-year tenure as part of the fish processing company.
“Loyola has been instrumental in advancing the priorities of the company on many fronts, including the sustainability of our resources through Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certifications and fisheries improvement projects, the interaction and leadership with our various industry associations on key issues, and building strong relationships with other industry players, both levels of government and other stakeholders,” OCI CEO Martin Sullivan stated in a news release.
Sullivan, a former provincial politician, will be replaced as the company’s vice-president of sustainability and engagement by Carey Bonnell, who comes to OCI from Memorial University’s Marine Institute, where he was the head of the school of fisheries.
Bonnell, who holds a master of marine studies in fisheries and resource management from MUN, was once managing director for the Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation and held senior leadership positions with the government of Nunavut. He has also been an active member of various fisheries-related committees at the provincial and federal levels.
“Carey comes from a fishing family and is very passionate about the fishery and Newfoundland and Labrador,” OCI chief operating officer Blaine Sullivan stated.
Bonnell will start with OCI on Feb. 12 and work closely with Sullivan to transition responsibilities.
