Name these puppies

RCMP seek children’s help to name new K-9 recruits

-

RCMP will have 13 German shepherd puppies added to their team at the Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alta., this year, but they need help choosing names for all of those puppies.

So, they are reaching out to Canadian children 14 years old and younger to come up with puppy names beginning with the letter “L”. The names should have no more than two syllables and nine letters.

“The winning names will be original and imaginative and will serve the puppies well during their careers as police dogs,” RCMP said in a release.

Children whose puppy names get selected in the annual “Name the Puppy” contest will win a laminated photo of the puppy they named, a plush dog called Justice, and an official RCMP baseball cap.

Children have until Feb. 28 to enter the contest, and winners will be announced on April 10.

RCMP say they also love to receive drawings and paintings, so if children submit their puppy name by snail mail, they are welcome to get creative with their entry. However, only one entry per child is allowed to be entered in the contest, so children should choose their name carefully.

To submit an entry by mail, children should include their own name and age, complete address and telephone number, and of course, their puppy name. Entries can be mailed to:
