Three more concessionaires have been announced for the first phase of the St. John’s International Airport terminal building expansion.

Booster Juice, the Heritage Shop and Breakwater Place — a division of the airport convenience store chain Relay — will have a home in the 53,800-square-foot expansion that is set to open in June.

The Heritage Shop, a social enterprise of the non-profit Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, already operates a kiosk in the departures lounge, but will have a larger storefront to sell its selection of arts, crafts, gifts and books from local craftspeople and suppliers.

“We are delighted to have both national and local brands represented at our airport, providing travellers with a well-rounded selection of high-quality food and beverage and retail options,” Marie Manning, director of marketing and business development, stated in a news release.

They join previously announced concessionaires Yellowbelly Brewery & Public House and the Newfoundland Chocolate Company, which will operate both a café and a retail component, bringing the number of post-security dining and retail options to six — three retail, and three food and beverages.

That number will increase to

five of each later in 2018 when the pre-boarding screening area is relocated to the first floor of the expanded building and its footprint is converted into additional concession space.

“With the additional concession offerings, we expect this will entice travellers to spend more time in the expanded departures lounge prior to departure,” Manning stated. “We’re happy to be

able to offer both healthy and fast-food options, and various retail concessions — something for everyone.”

The terminal expansion is just one component of a 10-year airport improvement and expansion plan that is valued at $200 million. The second phase of the expansion, scheduled to start later this year, will focus on the west end

of the terminal and is aimed at improving services and facilities for arriving aircraft and passengers. That extension will add another 29,900 square feet to the airport.

By 2021, the airport terminal will be twice its current size and measure 387,000 square feet.
