Ray Stacey facing theft, break-in charges

- BY TARA BRADBURY

A Mount Pearl man acquitted in 2016 of killing his coworker was back before the courts yet again this week on new charges.

Raymond Stacey, 26, was arrested for allegedly breaking into a Forsey Place home on Wednesday, stealing a woman’s vehicle, and breaching a court order to keep the peace; an order given to him three weeks ago.

Two years ago, Stacey was acquitted by a jury of seconddegree murder in the stabbing death of his coworker, 41-yearold Clifford Comerford. The pair were working as chicken catchers and were both in a van that was set to take them to work in Harbour Grace for a night shift in January 2015 when Comerford was killed. Stacey testified he didn’t stab Comerford, and others in the van told the court they didn’t see a stabbing.

When he was acquitted, Stacey’s lawyer told reporters his client was anxious to get on with his life, but Stacey has been back and forth to court a number of times since then.

He was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 in February of last year, after he allegedly stole a can of Red Bull energy drink from a grocery store.

That charge was dismissed this past March. Last August, Stacey was arrested and charged with robbing a Mount Pearl woman.

That charge was withdrawn in November. On March 29th of this year, Stacey was charged with assault and released on bail.

The charge was withdrawn Thursday when he appeared on the newest charges. Stacey was granted bail with a number of conditions, including that he not operate a motor vehicle and that he stay away from the Forsey Place home and the female victim.

He’ll be back in court June 6.
