Gary Hennessey to represent himself
Man faces charges of assaulting, threatening sheriff’s officers; Crown says more charges may be coming from RNC
Acquitted two weeks ago of all charges in relation to a series of violent home invasions, Gary Hennessey told the court Friday he will represent himself on charges of threatening and assaulting peace officers.
Hennessey, 33, is in custody while he has six charges still before the court: two charges of uttering threats, a charge of assaulting a peace officer and three charges of breaching court orders.
He made an appearance before a judge in St. John’s Friday, where he said he plans to represent himself on the matters.
He asked for time to try to work out a plea deal with the Crown before entering pleas. Hennessey, who has been held at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary for the past 15 months since he was arrested for the home invasions, indicated he will look for a sentence of time served.
The Crown indicated it had received word from the RNC that more charges against Hennessey may be coming, and is waiting to receive word from the RNC’S major crime unit. Hennessey’s case will be called again May 17. His charges stem from an alleged incident in January.
Sentenced to a 75-day prison term for threatening a female sheriff’s officer while in the holding cells at Atlantic Place last November, Hennessey didn’t even make it back to the lockup before he allegedly threatened her life again.
He is also alleged to have become aggressive with a male officer, spitting directly in the officer’s face.
