One dead in ve­hi­cle fire near Deer Lake

DEER LAKE — The RCMP in Deer Lake is in­ves­ti­gat­ing the death of per­son in a ve­hi­cle fire that oc­curred near the town on Mon­day.

A news re­lease from the RCMP says po­lice re­sponded to the ve­hi­cle fire in a wooded area off the Tran­scanada High­way east of Deer Lake just be­fore 2 p.m. The fire was ex­tin­guished with­out spread­ing be­yond the ve­hi­cle.

The RCMP and the Of­fice of the Chief Med­i­cal Ex­am­iner are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the sud­den death. No gen­der or age was pro­vided.

Po­lice were as­sisted in the mat­ter by provin­cial forestry per­son­nel, the Deer Lake Vol­un­teer Fire De­part­ment and the Deer Lake Ground Search and Res­cue.
