BATEY Lois Ora (Rus­sell)

The Rus­sell-batey fam­ily re­grets to an­nounce the pass­ing of Lois Ora Batey. Lois was born in Port Union, NL on Oc­to­ber 12, 1922. Her fam­ily were lead­ers in the New­found­land cod in­dus­try and owned the Bon­av­ista Cold Stor­age Com­pany. As a young woman, she en­joyed ten­nis and swim­ming in Holy­rood. She met her hus­band, Her­bert Alan Batey, dur­ing the war and moved with him to Vic­to­ria B.C. where they had two daugh­ters. As a strong be­liever in ed­u­ca­tion, Lois sup­ported her hus­band as he took a lead­er­ship role in the cre­ation of Camo­sun Col­lege. The fam­ily went on sail­ing trips around Van­cou­ver Is­land and vis­ited New­found­land dur­ing the sum­mers. She was a very in­volved grand­mother and cared for her grand­chil­dren (and grand-pup­pies) of­ten. Lois suf­fered bad back pain through­out her life but main­tained her op­ti­mism and warmth to­wards those around her. Lois passed away Nov 18, 2018 in Dou­glas Care fa­cil­ity in Vic­to­ria B.C. She will be missed by her daugh­ters, Ann and June, grand­chil­dren, Paul and Ju­lia, great-grand­daugh­ter Amara and re­main­ing sib­lings Paul and Ruth.
