Passed peace­fully away on De­cem­ber 6th, 2018, Thelma Marie Atkin­son in her 104th year. Pre­de­ceased by her brother, Don­ald, and sis­ters, Gwen and Mary. Leav­ing to mourn and cel­e­brate her long life, her daugh­ter, Jean Ber­nath, grand­son Ja­son Ber­nath, great­grand­chil­dren, Tessa and Creed Ber­nath; son, Ian Atkin­son, daugh­ter-in-law, Donna Ka­vanagh, and her nieces and their fam­i­lies in the UK and the USA. She will also be missed by her sec­ond fam­ily at Calling­wood Down’s Se­niors Com­plex, the Ka­vanagh fam­ily and her friends from Beta Sigma Phi, as well as spe­cial friend, Tina Mor­gan. The fam­ily would like to ex­tend a very spe­cial thank you to the staff at Calling­wood Downs who al­ways went out of their way to af­ford her ev­ery com­fort es­pe­cially in the last months.

Thelma came to NL from Eng­land in 1958, ini­tially set­tling in Trin­ity be­fore mov­ing to St. John’s. She worked for the pro­vin­cial gov­ern­ment in the 70’s and 80’s and was ac­tive in Beta Sigma Phi and the SPCA. Thelma loved to travel and vis­ited coun­tries all over the world. Gar­den­ing was one of her pas­sions. Cre­ma­tion has taken place. Vis­i­ta­tion at Caul’s Fu­neral Home, Le­marchant Road on Sun­day, De­cem­ber 9th from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Me­mo­rial ser­vice on Mon­day, De­cem­ber 10th, 2018 at 2 p.m. from Caul’s Chapel. In­urn­ment to fol­low at Holy Sepul­chre Ceme­tery. Do­na­tions in her mem­ory can be made to the SPCA.
