The province has a second finalist for the prestigious Loran Award.

Waterford Valley High School student Kamea Bellows is among the top 88 of 5,089 applicants who will participate in national selections in Toronto Feb 1-2.

Bellows will have a chance at the $100,000 award, which is awarded based on evidence of character, commitment to service in the community and leadership potential.

After national selections, the Loran Scholars Foundation will grant 34 Loran Awards. The Loran Award includes annual stipends, tuition waivers from a partner university, mentorship, summer-internship funding, as well as annual retreats and forums.

If not selected as a Loran Scholar, Bellows is eligible to receive a $5,000 finalist award.

The other finalist from the province is Heidi Simpson of Glovertown Academy.

The Telegram previously reported Simpson was a finalist on Dec. 13.

Bellows and Simpson are the only two finalists of the 88 across the country who have been selected by the foundation this year.
