MUN reaches tentative agreements with two faculty unions

-

After several months of negotiations and a reported impasse in November, Memorial University and its two faculty associations — the MUN Faculty Association (MUNFA) and the Lecturers’ Union of MUN (LUMUN) — have reached tentative agreements.

The LUMUN agreement was reached on Wednesday but before the union representing per-course instructors brings the deal to its members for a ratification vote, both sides must sign a memorandum of settlement.

As for the MUNFA agreement, finalized Thursday, the next step is for the union to bring it to its membership for a vote.

“We knew from the start that finding the right balance in these difficult financial circumstances would not be an easy task,” Dr. Noreen Golfman, provost and vice-president academic, stated on the the MUN Gazette’s website.

Reaching this stage so early in the winter semester provides reassurance to our students that their studies and research will continue uninterrupted.”

Details of the agreements won’t be released until such time that both unions have conducted their respective ratification votes.
