Activities Noon St. John’s African Roots Festival

A unique and free experience for the whole family at 65 Ridge Rd from noon to 8 p.m. Discover African cultures and music from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and African-american. 1 p.m. RIAC Takes the Hill

The Refugee and Immigrant Advisory Council is taking over Signal Hill for a day of crafts, language, music, and diversity. Join us at the annex in the visitor centre for a beautiful day of multicultu­ralism. This is a free event, but donations are welcome. Education

Sheldon will share his personal story and show the audience that life is a journey all about growing, changing, coming to terms with, and loving who and what you are. To no longer be afraid to have and use your own voice or to make your own decisions. Holy Cross School Reunion and Dinner

The 22nd annual Holy Cross School Reunion and Dinner will be held Thursday night Sept. 12th at the Knights of Columbus on St. Clare Avenue. Meet and Greet from

6 to 7:30 pm with dinner to be served at 7:30 pm. A meal choice of a Roast Beef or Chicken will be served. All former students of the old Holy Cross School on Patrick St., Ricketts Rd., Br. Eagan Field and former Crusader Athletes are invited to attend. Tickets are $35 and include a Travel Mug with the Holy Cross insignia and colors. The First World War had a profound impact on Newfoundla­nd and Labrador. It involved thousands of our people in worldchang­ing events overseas and dramatical­ly altered life at home. Our ‘Great War’ happened in the trenches and on the ocean, in the legislatur­e and in the shops, by firesides and bedsides.
