Drug bust results in 16 people charged: RCMP
Sixteen people have been charged and more than $62,000 worth of illicit drugs were recovered by the RCMP following Project Bullfight over the Labour Day weekend.
The aim of the operation, tasked by the Bay St. George and Channel-port aux Basques detachments, was to target people involved in drug trafficking on the province’s west coast.
It involved the support of the RCMP federal serious and organized crime units from St. John’s and Gander, and the RCMP’S police dog services unit.
Between Friday and Monday last weekend, the RCMP says, it executed search warrants in six communities: Loures, Three Rock Cove, Stephenville Crossing, Flat Bay, Port aux Basques and Searston. Police seized $62,000 worth of illicit drugs and substances, including cocaine, prescription pills, illegal cannabis and cannabis resin.
Police also seized $90,000 in cash, seven firearms, ammunition and more evidence related to the trafficking of illicit drugs and cannabis.
Seized items include: 25 grams of cocaine; 1,600 prescription pills, including oxycodone, hydromorphone, codeine, benzodiazepine and others; one gram of 3,4 Methylenedioxyamphetamine (ecstasy); 1,597 grams of cannabis; 414 gram of cannabis resin (shatter); 256 edible cannabis candies; 164 grams of cannabis oil; 26 cannabis plants; seven firearms (six shotguns, one rifle) and ammunition; $90,000 cash; and other evidence indicative of drug trafficking.
The sixteen people charged range in age from 18 to 59. They were all released to appear in court at a later date.
