Passed peacefully away on Monday, September 2nd, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 61. Predecease­d by her parents Pauline and Ralph Harris and her older sister Sheila Penney. Leaving to mourn with lovely happy memories, her loving husband of 39 years, John, twin daughters Erica and Erin, sister Moira Harris Smith (Geoff) and brother-in-law Ted Penney, Croke family members; Richard, Kathleen (Paul) Williams, Michael (Isabel), Rose, Judy (Tom) Hayes, Janet Duffenais (Brian), Robert (Gayle), Mary (Ernie) Lawrence, and Heather (Ian). Also leaving to mourn a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends with special mention to lifelong friend Anna Moakler and very special close friend Jackie Furlong. Mary worked with the telephone company for 38 years and was a proud, active member of her union. She held many executive positions at the local, regional, and national level. She was a staunch supporter of union rights, with particular emphasis on women’s issues and equality. Mary retired from the phone company, but not from her union. She stayed involved until the end, imparting her experience onto others. She will be remembered in solidarity by her union sisters and brothers. Special thanks to Dr. Sheilagh Mcgrath and Dr. Renee Lester, and all the staff at the Health Science Centre who helped with her care. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Thursday, September 5th, 2019 from 12-2pm and 5-7pm at Caul’s Funeral Home on 84 Lemarchant Road in St. John’s. There will be a short celebratio­n of life service immediatel­y following the evening visitation at 7pm at Caul’s Chapel. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name may be made to SPCA St. John’s or the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.
