WHAT WE’RE DOING ABOUT THE FEDERAL ELECTION
THE MISSION
Our ultimate goal is to generate election content that’s really useful to you. We want our words, photos and videos to teach you something new, provide perspectives you may not have considered and help give you complete comfort discussing the issues with family, friends and colleagues. We want to fuel those important conversations — at home, at work, at the rink or at the pub — and foster engagement as we head to the polls. An informed electorate is critical to your community.
THE WHO
We’ve got teams of reporters and contributors focusing on what’s happening locally and going deep on major issues like the economy and climate change. Our team, people like Jim Vibert and Russell Wangersky, will offer opinions on issues, platforms and developments. Plus, we’ve invited some guest contributors to share their perspectives on everything from democracy to the economy. We’ll also offer broader national and global coverage of the campaign from Postmedia and Reuters.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
On Saltwire.com, readers will see candidate profiles, coverage of issues with local and national impact, and political commentary from columnists and cartoonists. We’ll be presenting some of the content in different ways than before. And there’ll be many calls to action — things you can do to contribute to the conversation — as the campaign moves along. On election night, we’ll have comprehensive coverage of the winners, the losers and what might come next.
WHEN AND WHERE
Our best-ever election content is now online, in print and on social media. Over the next six weeks, we’ll be publishing hundreds of election stories to achieve our goal.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Throughout the campaign, I’d like to know what you’re thinking. What content worked and what didn’t? And what issue or issues would you like to know more about? What missing piece of information would make you feel better informed? What issue affects you most? Drop me a line at hello@saltwire.com.
